Akela Collins, Strategic Communications Director at Tephracor

Tephracor is delighted to announce the addition of Akela Collins as the new Strategic  Communications Director. Akela brings a diverse and rich background in global strategic communications, television production, fitness training, and education, making her an invaluable asset to the Tephracor team.

Akela Collins is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Strategic Communications at the  University of Florida (UF). She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Telecommunications  Production from UF. Akela's early career was marked by her work in the news and television industry, where she served as a director and creative services professional. She has worked with  David Letterman in New York City, gaining significant experience in high-profile and fast-paced  media environments. Translating that high-stress environment into the local news industry, Akela  worked as a director for WCJB-TV20 in Gainesville Florida.

Following a spinal injury, Akela developed a passion for health and wellness. She transitioned  into the fitness industry, becoming a personal trainer and fitness instructor, a field she has excelled in for 12 years. She founded and owns Empirica Fitness, a successful fitness business,  and was recognized as Gainesville's Favorite Trainer in 2022 by Our Town Magazine. As a  master trainer, she has educated new trainers and the public about health and wellness,  demonstrating her high expertise and skill.

Now, Akela is returning to her roots in communications, leveraging her extensive experience and  education to guide Tephracor’s strategic communication efforts. Her unique blend of media expertise, entrepreneurial spirit, and commitment to education positions her to effectively communicate Tephracor’s mission and initiatives to a global audience. Additionally, Akela's  passion for sustainability and environmental protection aligns perfectly with Tephracor’s  commitment to sustainable agricultural solutions.

Akela expressed her enthusiasm about joining Tephracor, stating, "I am excited to be part of an innovative company making significant strides in sustainable agriculture. I look forward to  contributing to Tephracor’s mission and helping to shape its communication efforts.”
