Decreases Traditional Fertilizer and Lime Use

TephraMax ® raw materials provide a broad spectrum of essential macronutrients that improve soil health and promote plant growth, allowing farmers to reduce fertilizer application rates over time. TephraMax ® raw materials provide essential trace micronutrients that are often not delivered with traditional fertilizer treatments. Decreases Harmful N2O Greenhouse Gas Emissions From Soil

The basalt in TephraMax ® counteracts N2O emissions associated with agricultural practices, which helps retain N in soil. The bicarbonate produced when TephraMax ® is applied stabilizes soil pH reducing the production and release of N2O. Using TephraMax® basaltic volcanic rock for soil remineralization reduces chemical fertilizer runoff through decreased use of traditional fertilizers and lime.

Atmospheric Carbon Dioxide Removal

The basaltic material in TephraMax®  permanently sequesters 300-500 kg of CO2 per ton of material applied as the weathering of basalt naturally produces soluble bicarbonate ions.
